I have no anti con insulation under my roof what can i do

What can I do if I have no anti con insulation under my roof :

Believe it or not there are a lot of people in Australia with this problem. The effects range from over heating, heat escape and condensation. I had a client a couple of months ago with this problem and to make things worse their roof was black. In the month of September by 10 am they needed the air conditioning on. The worst part was the roof was only a couple of years old so it wasn’t worth replacing.

An insulation company came along and filled their ceiling up with R3 batts which made it unbearable ( like putting a jumper on) To find out why reed this article   http://www.solacebuildingservices.com.au/building-services/what-type-of-insulation/

So what the roof really needed was some foil insulation. I have found a product that is perfect for this type of scenario. You can easily install it yourself its non toxic and so simple and effective. I personally believe that this product is custom made for any hot climate. Concertina foil batts.

This product will help the insulation factor but not the water leaks.

The fact about roof insulation

The facts about roof insulation :

Roof insulation is one of the most important types of insulation in your home. It is supposed to do a number of things such as :

  • Moisture barrier
  • Reflect radiant heat
  • Prevent heat escape
  • Prevent condensation

Most roofing insulation or roof blankets as they are known, are once again made from bulk insulation laminated with a layer of aluminium foil. These common types of roofing blankets barely do any of the things they are supposed to.

  • They don’t work as a moisture barrier
  •  They cant reflect radiant heat,
  • They prevent moisture from escaping the roof cavity
  • They deteriorate very quickly

I have lost count of how many leaking roofs I have seen where it is impossible to find the leaks because of the way that this stuff is laid.
Bulk roof insulation cant reflect radiant heat, because it is so thick that it closes the 25mm compulsory air gap needed for the foil to reflect .
The bulk insulation soaks up a lot of moisture out of the air so the space becomes damp and toxic.
If you read my last post you will know why it deteriorates quickly.

If you are in the market for new roofing insulation, it would be an extremely wise move to check out foil bubble insulation.

All of the big legitimate companies are spending a lot of money educating people about these types of insulation. I truly believe in years to come that these bulk insulations could be a thing of the past.

hope this helped

The truth about Eco, Sustainable and plantation timber

The truth about ECO, sustainable and plantation timber

First of all, dont get me wrong, I am not a die hard greeny that chains myself to trees or anything like that. How ever I dont like how companies that tell lies in order to sell their products. All I am doing in this post is informing you of the facts.

Eco and sustainable are words that  get used to sell all different types of products.

ECO and sustainable are words that are not regulated and there is no benchmark set for people who wish to use it for selling their products. The definition of free range eggs has more meaning and everyone knows what a joke that is !

In reality its another sales pitch by big companies to try and make people feel good about choosing their products.

In the case of timber building products  it gets used a lot. You have products like Eco ply, eco timber, plantation timber and the list goes on.

First of all Plantation timber is not ECO friendly or sustainable!!!!!!

ask these questions:

What was on the land before the tree Plantation was there ? ( most likely a natural Forrest)

What happens to the native animals and plants when these forrest are destroyed and burnt ?

How do they stop bugs and native wildlife from eating the seedlings ? ( aerial spraying )

where do these sprays go when it rains ( into the rivers)

How do they stop the native animals that eat the seedlings ? (poison)

What other practises do these big multi national companies do oversees ? ( you’l see in one of the links below)

I grew up in a town surrounded by these ECO  plantations, people don’t even drink the water out of the tap in my town  now.

Check this link out     http://www.abc.net.au/austory/specials/somethingwater/default.htm

This is just 1 story out of thousands but its close to my heart !!!

The link below is a good example , search for a Malaysian logging company called TA AAN.

Steel is a far more ECO friendlyand sustainable product !

Why :

Its 100% recyclable

Australia has mountains of it

The industry is not as spread out as Tree plantations

You don’t need to cut down and burn as many virgin forest

These are just a few reasons off the top my head.

Its termite resistant.

It last forever.

Make up your own mind?

EPS cladding v’s Blue board

polystyrene EPS rendered claddings

polystyrene EPS rendered claddings

EPS cladding V’s Blue board

This one is a no brain er guys, it stuns me that some builders are still choosing to use blue board over EPS or polystyrene.

As a solid plasterer and carpenter I have spent a lot of years working with these products and believe me there is no comparison.

EPS leaves blue board for dead full stop !!

I can guarantee that blue board will :

  • Show every join through the render no matter how good the render er is after a couple of months.
  • It hates moisture
  • its hard and dusty to cut
  • It has no insulation value
  • Trades people hate it
  • with in a year it will look old and horrible

EPS is :

  • Virtually the same price hung and rendered as blue board
  • Has excellent insulation qualities
  • If installed and rendered properly, it will not crack
  • Water resistant
  • Easy to install
  • Fully recyclable

In my opinion EPS is far superior to blue board
